I have worked with some great people on the Council over the years, but this year, my 11th, is absolutely the most exciting I’ve ever experienced!
Last year, you and your neighbors voted to oust the “Tax and Spend” Republicans and bring in two great people to join Councilman Jones and I to lead South River in a different direction. And we have! Councilmembers Jack Alai and Julie Meira bring their unique experience and passion to the job of running the town and we all have put more time in to get that done than any other members I have known. We are “hands-on” managers and you will see us at almost every meeting where residents are newly volunteering to make a difference in our lives in town. We want our residents to know that we welcome them and will support them in their efforts.
And it’s working! You can take a look at a small portion of what we’ve accomplished this year on pages 6 and 7. Or check the Calendar on the Borough website (which we’re in the process of renovating). Or maybe on Facebook. Come to any of the meetings listed and you’ll see your neighbors giving their time and effort. You can also find information regularly now in your electric bill (in the Monthly Buzz) if you don’t have a computer.
Sadly, one thing you won’t see is any of our Republican colleagues joining in at these meetings. They have been fighting us on everything and completely misrepresenting our achievements in their flyers and literature. They blame us for this year’s tax increase after they wrote a blank check for an oversized $14 million firehouse and left no money in reserve to pay for it. They criticized us for taking away full time Borough vehicles from two of their part time employee friends they hired. They even have the nerve to attack our candidates this year, Ruell Brown, a combat veteran who served in two tours in Iraq and Sandra Adelino, a full time working mom whose job is to make sure contractors pay their workers what they’ve earned. They both have a volunteer record that tells me they’ll be fantastic additions to our body.
You see, my opponents have to attack us because they have had no record of their own. In order to get elected they must misrepresent. It’s politics with them 100% of the time.
They also make hypocritical promises like cutting spending and taxes if you elect them. They’ve had the votes to do that for 8 of the 9 last years they were in control. But with the votes, they raised taxes (a lot), raised your electric, stopped paving roads,= and hired their friends.
That is their record, and they are running from it. Their opposition to our improvements show they don’t care about South River. It’s time for them to let people who do care have the chance to serve.
