Growing up in South River my fondest memories are all of the events, parades and activities I got involved in. Rarely, did I stop to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of others who helped make those events possible. Now that I am older and my children are beginning to join various organizations, I am now realizing the sacrifice and dedication of those who take charge and make these things happen for our youth. South River works because of the countless hours dedicated by volunteers!
For the last few years I have met some great people that serve our community. Being a part of the cultural arts and heritage committee has shown me the logistics behind preparing the Memorial Day Parade. Being a library board trustee has exposed me to the dedication of many others who seek to improve and promote the great resources like our library in town. When my daughter wanted to get involved in cheerleading, I decided to join the Pop Warner community this year, allowing me to meet a host of great residents who are always enthusiastic in wanting to give kids a place to learn, play, and incorporate teamwork to give our future a solid foundation. There is no better reward to receive, then to give your time to the community.
This year, I took the next step because I want to expand this perspective onto our Council.Being involved in a variety of organizations, I see many areas of overlap that would further improve our proud town.
I encourage everyone who would like to go out and give your time to help others. And if you have new ideas, spread them! Giving of oneself brings back the kindness we give to one another and makes us proud of calling South River home.
