The new majority of Jack, Julie, Ryan, and Shawn have been working hard all year long to fulfill their promise of making for a friendlier South River and I’m impressed with the progress made in 8 months. The team was left with a terrible budget, inheriting millions in new unpaid debt obligations from the prior Administration, but that hasn’t stopped them from finding savings in the budget and from launching new, cost effective programs.
We’ve seen them bring electric rate relief to our important nonprofit and veteran’s organizations. They’ve launched a major new communications effort, an extended day summer rec. program, an online services suite that make getting things done in borough easier. They’ve passed ordinances that reduce fees on residents and businesses (completely removing alarm registration and outdoor sidewalk fees). They’re working hard to streamline the building and permit process to make improving properties and opening businesses easier. They launched a major effort to revitalize our Downtown that will begin this fall. They’ve established programs that provide assistance for residents who want to redo curbs and sidewalks or plant trees. Roads will be paved! Our parks are beginning to receive facelifts!
At pretty much every turn, they’ve faced opposition. Elections matter. I want to see more of these type of resident benefits. We need to elect candidates that have ideas. Not simply opposition based upon political party. Sandra Adelino and Ruell Brown will provide these ideas, ensure continued action, and progress this town forward.
I’m proud of the new era we’re establishing in town.
